Jazzy Jeff Booted Off Stage For Playing Hip-Hop

On Saturday, June 6th, DJ Z-Trip performed at the Power & Light District in Kansas City, followed by DJ Jazzy Jeff, then MSTRKRFT. That evening, Jeff’s set was unexpectedly cut short by the venue. While speculation continues as to the reasoning behind this action, Z-Trip was present at the time of the debated incident.
 
While soundchecking, Z-Trip was asked by certain venue employees to “not play any rap music.” As one of the founders of the mash-up movement, hip-hop is heavily prevalent in Z’s repertoire. He proceeded with his set as planned, playing ODB and Pharoahe Monch.
 
Z-Trip watched Jazzy Jeff go on immediately following, joined by his MC, Skillz, playing a set full of Top 40 Hip-hop which included Jay-Z, Rihanna, Neyo, and TI. Mid set, Z-Trip, while standing on stage, witnessed Jeff's tour manager relay the complaints the venue had about the music he was playing. “I was really surprised the venue were upset by Jeff's set. This is Jazzy Jeff we're talking about, the guy who won the first Rap Grammy,” offers Z-Trip.
The entire venue watched Jeff leave the stage early. Once back stage, he was informed that lewd conduct by Skillz was the reason for his set being cut short. Soon after, a different reason was offered: Jeff was pushing the mix too far for their $50k audio system to handle.
 
"They had a team of sound engineers in front of the stage who controlled the master volume of the whole venue,” says Z-Trip. “No matter how loud a DJ plays, the person in front of the stage controls the show. So how can you blame it on sound levels – especially since this was the third explanation given.”

So, as many of you may be aware, Raspsploitation Sessions helped organise a UK Tour for american artists, Headkrack, The Bodega Brovas & Diabolical Fancy. It went down between 14th - 19th April 2009 and was AMAZING...they murdered every show...specifically Rapsploitation Sessions in Ipswich.

They are putting all the video's together into a series of mini-episodes. Hip Hop Reality TV at it's best.... Below are the first two episodes where the guys lose a seat on the plan, Picnictyme gets put on another plane, Fishr offers to fly the plane to gain a seat & they finally arrive in England

JEHST @ Rapsploitation Sessions Re-Cap -SOLD OUT AGAIN!

Just wanted to thank everyone for coming out to Rapsploitation Sessions last night...was a dope night. That was the quickest we've filled up the venue...was nice to see a queue outside waiting....if i weren't stressed to hell..we'd have been on our rock star shittt!!! Anyway.....

We started with a HEAP of set backs on the day...everything that could be going wrong seemed to be going wrong, but we got through it.....we unfortunately couldn't set the stage up in time due to all the stresses...but a live night was still had by all


Brotherman tore it down with Stranger & DJ Flips!!!! Brotherman is one of the dopest acts coming up so chck out his album The Light / THe Dark.

The Bodega Brovas & Diabolical Fancy all the way from Dallas USA, murdered it..... they loved the response from the crowd and told me it was one of the top shows they've done. Baring in mind they've toured the whole of the USA, the crowd really repped for ipswich and hip hop in the uk!!..Biggup your self.

Jehst then took to the stage, hitting with all the classis and the new shit.....he brought along Micall Parknsun and Jyager who were dope as hell.....What more would you expect from a Rapsploitation Sessions night?




All in all, everyone represented from the crowds to the DJ's to the performers and the graffiti outside.

On a negative note...the toilets got vandalised...people tagged it up and because of this we've had to pay to get it removed and cleaned........that shit aint cheap.........I'm sure you can respect It's hard enough to keep british hip hop nights going and these things are not helping it so if you enjoy the nights please respect the premises. We wouldn't be able to get the artists we do without the swan's help and it's highly disrespectful.

Headkrack is best known through his work with the are, battling at scribble jam and as a member of the legendary Erykah Badu's band "The Cannabinoids". He has an album coming out soon and music featured on an up and coming green lantern mixtape.
Travii the 7th is also another greatly talented MC from dallas. Long time rhyming partner of Headkrack, he too has an album coming out soon with a track on green lanterns mixtape.

They are bringing Picnictyme, all three of them make up "Diabolical Fancy" and will be bringin a live outfit of bass, keyboard and two laptops.

Gunna be AMAZING night..make sure you get them tickets early and get to the show early.........can't believe it's still a month away...damn, got a lil while to wait.

As i explained @ rapsploitation sessions february show...this is my obligatory 'f@%! the police' track..... but not really..i've had friends who are police, just as much as iv'e had friends who are/were criminals...so i respect both sides of the "hustle".....don't getit twisted, some police are fucked up..maybe more than those that are fair and genuine...but not all are....i'm not doing with stereotyping or labeling collective ideas on a certain "group" or people......

However...i do not like the harassment i've experienced from police...i mean, yeh sure, if i got a bomb on me...you're a hero...but from my point of view, it's fucking embarassing to be stoped and searched in a public place when i'm a righteous MOTHERFUCKER.

So this track derives from a certain incident that happened a couple summers ago @ picadilly train station in manchester (shouts to deepo, the graduate & jun tzu, the bomber..)....an incident that since has repeated itself several times.

So, we at rapsploitation sessions are no different from any other modern music lover in the respect that we love the work of J Dilla.

Recently, Carlos Nino & Miguel Atwood Ferguson leaked two mp3s of orchestral arrangements of classic dilla tunes (Nag Champa & Fall in Love) on the net and has followed it up by producing a full EP called "Suite for Ma Dukes".

Recently his orchestra got together to perform classic and obscure dilla productions & tracks to an exclusive live audience. Here's a short clip (props to thelipstickdiaries.com) from the performance featuring cameo's from Posdnous, Talib Kweli, Illa J, Ma Dukes, House Shoes, Kariem Riggins, Amp Fiddler and many more i'm sure were in attendance on the night.

Apparently there was a film crew, so fingers crossed they are planning to release a DVD of the whole night.

London heat of 2009 UK Beatbox Championships

The London heats of the 2009 UK Beatbox Championships were held last friday and in the comp was Rapsploitation Sessions very own beatbox wizard mr Pikey Esquire!!

The Competition looked very tough with the judges choosing layth as the eventual winner, he will now go on to the finals in june for a chance to become UK champ

Happy Birthday To Rapsploitation Sessions!

Since it was our birthday, we had to do it big style, and what better else to have the promoter (hi, haters) performing and support one of UK Hip Hop's legends in Chester P...he brought along with him another legend in these parts (i could name 100 people i know who got into uk hip hop through the ten pound bag mixtapes) louis slipperz, and inja, from the cambridge collective Delegates of Culture!

Since Rapsploitation Sessions is big in the game - we off course sold out of tickets and had to turn a lot of people away. A few of you have good blag games and got in, because rapsploitation sessions respect the gift of the gab.

It was a great party had by all....Chester P KILLED IT, but i don't need to tell you that.....the guys a legend.

Thanks to the whole crew, Billy Bollox, Jimmy Green, Paulo, Muddle, Damian & Swan Staff, Chester Inja, Louis Slipperz, Shumsz and everyone who came, new heads & rapsploitaton sessions veterans...the next one will be even bigger!
